A Mobilee trio makes house music delights tonight and showcases this very distinguished label founded in 2005 and owned by Anja Schneider and Ralf Kollmann. Julia Porter, best known as Miss Jools, is the native Londoner who cut her teeth and carved her niche in the UK capital, before making mobilee her musical home. In 2002 she co-founded London’s most infamous Sunday night affair, Clandestino. Renowned for its intersection of sophisticated house sounds, underground beats and a hint of hedonism, world famous DJs graced the decks during its 7-year run. Miss Jools came to wide attention in 2006 with Sleeper Thief, her collaborative production outfit with Audiofly. In 2008 she struck out on her own, undertaking solo work and discovering a penchant for slinky, late-night dancefloor sounds: Miss Jools’ comprehensive knowledge of electronic music and her melting-pot of influences makes her a valuable asset to the mobilee family. Ray Okpara is somewhat of a chameleon in the German scene, moving from Mannheim (where he co-ran the Loft parties) to Berlin where his heralded DJ performances were soon accompanied by productions, such as remixes for Johnny D on Oslo and 8-bit or the Italoboyz on Get Physical. Eventually returning to Mannheim, Ray Okpara's numerous and successful EPs put him on the front foot going into a new decade of continued house grooves and more good times. A crowd teaser and crowd pleaser, he is constantly rocking it with music to make you smile and lose yourself in the moment. Added to this distinguished line-up is Mobilee co-founder Ralf Kollmann, a lifelong DJ and the lynchpin of Mobilee’s excursions beyond its Berlin base, with appearances throughout Europe, North America and South Africa, and at the helm of extensive international tours, label showcases, and special events at Sonar and WMC. Kollmann is a meticulous DJ, with infallible technical skills and a record collection unparalleled in both depth and magnitude; its vast range colours his sets with stone-cold classics, underground favourites, exclusive cuts, and the newest of the new. It’s no coincidence that as requests for his podcasts and DJ mixes increase, that the number of his worldwide headlining gigs rises in kind. Downstairs on the Tresor Floor is another issue of the Wednesday new faces night, again under the wing of powerful techno DJ and frequent resident guest Torsten Kanzler. He has a triple roster of invited new blood: Spark Taberner pushes the limits and combines dark, industrial, experimental sounds with hard and running beats during performances. During his set it's typical to see him grabbing, twisting and manipulating clusters of knobs buttons and faders, all precisely moved, concentrated and always trying to experiment. Benelux DJ Eastone made himself known in the scene through various successful endeavours including Sonic Move and residencies in clubs N-Joy and Beckleck. His style has evolved from Hardtechno/Schranz to Techno and Minimal Techno but his motto remained the same, PUMP THE BASS. Christoph alias Placa tried a lot of directions until he landed in the techno genre - his personal sound. This music has become his life and it shows every time when Placa is behind the decks.
