Berlin Atonal’s New Codes night returns on Friday 26. June with a stacked line-up. As usual, the party starts from midnight, with tickets available on the door.
For a long time the figures behind the HATE 12”s that appeared to cultish acclaim on the Modern Love sublabel remained shadowy. The choppy jungle samples, ominous moods and Modern Love connection pointed in a certain direction, however, and it was no big surprise that the culprits were revealed as Miles Whittaker, Andy Stott and G.H. when a live cassette featuring a massive dark jungle live session was released under the HATE name last year.
For this New Codes, Atonal has invited HATE collaborators Miles Whittaker and G.H. to takeover the entire Globus room for the entire duration of the night. They play a special live show together, and have also invited Lee Gamble to enter the mix, going back to back with Miles to showcase their common interest in crate-digging and unexpected sound combinations and to explore a shared love of rave culture, jungle, and a whole lot more.
Downstairs in Tresor, the legendary Peter Van Hoesen has been invited back by the Berlin Atonal family after his memorable performance with Yves De Mey as Sendai at last years festival. This time he showcases his characteristic version of bass-heavy techno in the vault. Joining him in the basement is Oliver Ho’s Broken English Club. The project’s swelling underground reputation after the Violence & Divinity split with Silent Servant was bolstered with the release of the Scars EP on Jealous God. In the Broken English Club guise the UK techno veteran brings a pulsating, industrial and ritualistic brand of pitch-black techno to New Codes.
Peder Mannerfelt recent productions under his own name on labels such as We Can Elude Control, Digitalis and Archives Intérieures have safely secured his reputation as one of the most interesting, unusual and capable producers of recent years. He draws his musical influences from far and wide – stylistically and geographically – and promises to deliver a first rate selection.
