KNALL: the German word for “blast” or “bang”, and this is the last one for 2018! On the Tresor Floor: with each James Ruskin set on the basement decks of Tresor, we are reminded of the solid thread that ties our ideals and spectrum to this techno icon. Certainly some of Tresor Records’ most cutting-edge UK techno releases carry the Ruskin signature, a style he brought to the world’s attention back in the 90s and continues to mold. With his own Blueprint label he created an internationally renowned platform for talented artists as well as numerous releases that stand on their own as prime examples of the genre. Guy Brewer is Shifted, a UK producer, co-founder of the Avian label and formally part of drum n bass duo Commix. Berlin-based, fans had an exceptional experience of his Techno/Industrial/Experimental artistry during the 2015 and 2017 Atonal Festivals. From his debut on Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver label, to Dominick Fernow’s (Vatican Shadow) Bed Of Nails and to his recent recordings for his own imprint, Shifted‘s work radiates in its’ capacity to meld to context and circumstance without artistic compromise, and at once to color outside purist lines, pushing boundaries and provoking thought in a call to progressive techno, electronic, noise and experimental music as a whole. Cadans is a Dutch techno DJ and producer based in London, and is a techno project of Jeroen Snik. His tracks are big room, boomy, hard-hitting stomping techno that is just right for the Tresor basement. As a producer, his dark, organic and groove-style compositions have enjoyed wide acceptance giving career has now acquired a new impetus. Sebastian Bayne is a DJ, producer and label owner based in Sydney Australia. His music is fast gaining the support of this peers as it is developing into his unique take on techno, as well as taking the reins of IF? label in 2010 from long time techno cohort Andrez Bergen aka Little Nobody, in 2010. IF? Records was established in Melbourne in 1995, has over 130 releases, and a roster that reads like a who’s who of the underground in the last 15 years. In Globus: despite releasing only a small handful of records since his eponymous white-label debut in 2011, Objekt has quickly become one of the most consistently lauded producers of recent years. The Berlin-based DJ and producer has garnered an enviable reputation for attention to detail, evocative arrangements and inventive, effervescent sound design, coaxing sonic features from the most unlikely of places. Flatland, Objekt’s debut album, was released on PAN in 2014 and pushed further into sonic and structural experimentation than his club records were able to, without losing the musicality and physicality that made his singles so compelling. Objekt’s unique style is nowhere better exemplified than in Kern Vol. 3, his highly acclaimed mix CD for our label, released in 2016 and described in a 4.5-star RA review as “a window into the very essence of DJing”. David Kennedy is Pearson Sound: one third of the team behind the now 10-year old Hessle Audio label, he has become more than synonymous with the cutting edge of UK dancefloor music. In releasing his self-titled debut artist album in 2015, he skilfully capitalised on his astoundingly solid run of single and EP releases since 2009, producing a hypnotically enveloping LP that really found its feet in its willingness to experiment. He has lectured at the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid, released a critically heralded FABRICLIVE compilation and has remixed artists like Radiohead, The xx and M.I.A. as well as running the vinyl only club night, Acetate, in Leeds. Having lived in Toronto, DINA managed to establish herself a name within Toronto’s underground techno scene by hosting her own Nachtcrew collective parties, creating a platform for like-minded upcoming DJ’s. Being based in Cairo now, DINA seemingly effortless embraces uncompromising techno, acid and electro sounds into an intriguing mix that pulls us right onto the dance floor.
