Olivier Ducreux aka Shonky is a French DJ and producer. He is also one of the founders of the Apollonia label. This year he provided for Half Baked label’s second outing, after having never released on the label despite being one of its best-loved guests. HB013, which features three originals and a Robin Ordell remix, is Half Baked through and through: slinky and functional house with a quirky streak. Shonky was first introduced to the Parisian dance scene via Dan Ghenacia’s infamous Sunday ‘Kwality’ Batofar parties. Fast becoming a key player in the revival of the underground scene in Paris, he relocated to and regularly DJs in Berlin, alongside playing in the UK, Italy, France, Spain and more – having also recently completed a US tour. Finally, his first album ‘Time Zero’ has landed and it doesn’t merely justify the hype, it goes beyond. This is not a first class debut. It’s a first class album, full stop. ‘Time Zero’ is ripe with a musical intelligence well beyond Shonky‘s years. In returning HoW artist Dana Ruh’s early years her sound was rooted in techno and landed most often on the label Brouqade Records, which she set together with her friend Ann in 2007 and joined by (Anthea also joined the imprint collective in 2012). Producing a deeper, more smoky house and techno sound, Dana has become one of the family members at Jus Ed’s lauded New Jersey label Underground Quality, where she released her stunning debut album ‘Naturally’. Commanding the decks in top Berlin clubs, Dana lays down seductive tracks from the worlds of house and techno as well as gems in between, as she does when on tour round world, hitting up clubs and festivals everywhere from the UK to the USA, Romania to Russia. And we give it up again for the slick and sophisticated house sounds of Frankfurt’s Robert Drewek, founder of Rawax and a regular HoW guest: providing delicious sets of groovy house with techno impressions, Robert founded his own record distribution DBH Music in 2007 with Alex Bau and Jörg Henze. The tight cooperation between Rawax and House Of Waxx has continued a formidable cooperation with Monday nights in Tresor Club. Today DBH is one of the most important record distributions for electronic music and the home of Drewek’s Rawax which had an amazing impact in the scene from day one.
