New Codes returns to Tresor for its second outing. Berlin Atonal’s offshoot brings some of the more club-oriented aspects of the experimental festival to the fore, as well as a very special opening concert featuring a collaboration between Shackleton and legendary German artist Strawalde.
Entitled « Lapidar, Lappen Da, Lappen Dort, Piano Fort (e) » the partnership sees Shackleton provide live and improvisory accompaniment to Strawalde’s equally intuitive and unplanned experiments in paint. As a preface to the offerings on the Tresor and Globus floors, this live performance takes place in OHM from 21:00.
Rrose’s early releases on Sandwell District as well as her own Eaux imprint centrifuged the tropes of dark, texured techno into a clangy industrial soundworld. Her acclaimed live show raises this powerful admixture to a new, heightened register. Enigmatic producer Bleaching Agent is brought to the vault for the first time to perform one of his characteristically aggressive and forward thinking DJ sets, while upstairs in Globus the frantic and wide-ranging Delta Funktionen short circuits in his characteristic way the links between electro, acid, house, techno and more.
Fellow Dutchman Dave “2562” Huismans – in the guise of his more openly techno and house rooted A Made Up Sound project – also joins the party, although to label his sets as traditional would only misrepresent the more alien sides of his musical personality. Standard bearer for the sort of industrially tempered rhythms developed during Berlin Atonal, Ancient Methods will enrapture the vault for this second edition of New Codes.
