Tresor. 28 Years: DJ Stingray invites.
Fri 15 March 2019 - 23:59

Unbelievably so, it’s been 28 years since the founding of Tresor Club in Berlin, a ground-breaking moment in international techno history, and we are thankful to our fans and to our family of artists for our continued endeavors to enrich the house/techno scene! In March 1991, like-minded electronic music talents from Berlin and around the world jammed in an abandoned department store treasury, carving out a new form of musical art: techno. Inspired by the Detroit masters, many of them shuttled between the Motor City and Berlin, creating masterpieces that were set on vinyl on the ensuing Tresor Records. Tonight we welcome back maverick DJ Stingray: Sherard Ingram aka DJ Stingray has been an active member in Detroit’s electronic music community for nearly 25 years now, stretching back all the way to his first release as NASA on cult Detroit imprint Express Records alongside Scan 7‘s Trackmaster Lou. Never shy of a collaboration, Ingram spent much of the ’90s teaming up with Carl Craig, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir and Kenny Dixon Jr. to create a rich downtempo sound as Urban Tribe on James Lavelle’s Mo Wax label, with culminated in the release of 1998’s much-lauded The Collapse of Modern Culture album. He was then recruited to be the tour DJ for Drexciya in their final days, taking to the decks as DJ Stingray and masking his face from the audience, something he continues to do for all of his DJ appearances. In 2017 DJ Stingray presented his 27-track VA release on our label, Kern Vol. 4. We welcome back Hamburg native and highly esteemed DJ and producer, Helena Hauff. She has been extremely busy touring lately and is one of the few DJs left who still plays almost all vinyl. She is a deep appreciator of punk music which reflects in her selection and style, she really has the ability to move a crowd and get the heads banging. SHYBOI is a Jamaican-born, New York-based multidisciplinary artist. SHYBOI is the moniker she uses to cause sonic disruption. As a creative positioned between Caribbean and American culture, she uses sound to interrogate ideas of identity, notions of power, perceived histories and the entanglements that happens within these topics. SHYBOI is also member of the queer artist collective #KUNQ whose ethos is centered around the production of multidimensional work through sound, visual and performance art while expanding the discourse surrounding the subcultures and genres that have become diluted or obscured in the name of hybridity. Marcus, alias of Marco de Paulis, is a Roman DJ based in Berlin since a few years. For Marcus techno is a statement of love and a way of life, techno is the energy of every day, techno is technology, techno is his voice when he plays. His DJ sets are characterized by raw and dirty groove, industrial sounds and with a strong energy impact to the floor and the people, knowing exactly what they want as a DJ coming from the dancefloor as he is. In Globus: Odell Perry and Tameko J. Williams are Detroit In Effect, an electro duo who has been pumping out tracks since the 90s, releasing a string of classic Detroit electro records that started to turn heads overseas as well as on home turf. Eventually forming their own MAP Records, they expertly morphed the whole hip hop groove with dance beats, and in 2003 made a highly successful first tour to Europe. Tonight we welcome these great Detroit talents to our 28th birthday party. Nazira is an Almaty-based DJ, host on Radio Cómeme, Resident at Room 4 Resistance (Berlin) as well as promoter within underground club scene in Kazakhstan. Between making waves for publications, Nazira has also established herself within the Almaty scene as a beacon for burgeoning DJs and performers with ZVUK, a DIY event series that makes its home wherever the vibe will take it. Moving forward, Nazira is only going to become more noticed for her tactful approach to DJing whilst effortlessly traveling between left-field techno, electro, acid and industrial with smiles all along the way. CEM is resident DJ and co-organizer of the regular Herrensauna parties in our home. His terrific techno set is a perfect addition for this birthday celebration – Happy 28th Birthday Tresor Club!
