Ancient Methods was originally an industrial/techno duo of Conrad Protzmann & Michael Wollenhaupt aka Baeks & Trias: now it’s been Trias’ one man project since Baeks’ departure. Both originally integral DJs in the former legendary Tresor Headquarters team, today Ancient Methods takes this genre and drives you into its vortex right on the dancefloor. We always welcome him back to the Tresor decks. Ron Morelli, the L.I.E.S. label founder, has given a simple answer as to why he started the label: his friends were making great tracks that wouldn’t have otherwise come out. Founded in 2010, L.I.E.S. quickly rose to critical acclaim among music critics and fans, its 12″ vinyl releases frequently quickly selling out after influential music stores like Hard Wax began to champion the label. Ron’s February 2018 track on the “Waves Of The Future” compilation, on Alessandro Adriani’s Mannequin label, is an excellent taster of this talented artist. We have featured L.I.E.S. label nights over the past few years in Tresor Club, and Florian Kupfer was not omitted. The Berlin resident made his first record in 2012 at the age of 24, and he has since produced several solo EP’s followed by a few collaborations like UELI and SWERE. Tresor resident Mischa is a product of shifting technological landscapes. Nurtured by computerized machine music through radio waves from the hardcore continuum, he has developed a distinctly futurist vision for uncompromising techno music. Born in Berlin, Mischa inevitably found the legendary Hard Wax as a main educator in taste, and has worked there since 2010. On the Globus Floor: Dave Huismans aka A Made Up Sound is a musician and DJ from The Netherlands, currently based in Utrecht. He also makes music as 2562, has operated at such a high level of quality and consistency over the past decade that we’ve almost become complacent about his work. Huismans has never ceased to be inventive; rather, the rest of us have trouble keeping up with him. A Made Up Sound is generally spoken of as hybridising sounds and histories, from dubstep to techno, or Detroit to The Hague: he can simultaneously touch on electro, dubstep, techno and IDM in a single track. Niels Luinenburg aka Delta Funktionen‘s tracks on Field 02 and 04 are delicious techno works of intricate, moody forces. Also a resident at Amsterdam’s LET – les enfants terribles – Delta Funktionen is content to go about his business quietly, and the Dutchman now spins a genre-defiant blend of Detroit techno, Chicago-licked house, crafty old school electro and sparkling Italo disco at clubs around the globe. We give a warm welcome back to Delta Funktionen. Frequent guest Jose Cabrera aka J.C. from Spain, debuting in Tresor on one of the Echoes nights, expresses a style of simple, raw, stripped down and hypnotic techno. In 2012, he started the AHD label together with his friend Damian Schwartz, and he produced his first EP for the Argentinian label Greener Records in the beginning of 2013. After several other innovative releases, J.C. joined the Tresor label family with his different blends in subtle electronics.
