If there’s an artist to successfully traverse the treacherous divide between drum and bass, breakbeat and techno it’s Christopher Jarman’s prevailing alias, Kamikaze Space Programme. With roots indebted to the music he released on labels like Renegade Hardware and Hospital Records back in the day, his abstract, field recorded, industrial and broken admission into the annals of techno has seen his music backed, supported and released by the heaviest of renowned labels. Following its debut on Deca Rhythm, Kamikaze Space Programme has joined the dots through a constellation of labels inhibiting a grey zone between UK club music and steely warehouse techno. Capturing internal resonances and electromagnetic radiation of objects, re-amplified or organic, classic hardware dub mixing completes the Kamikaze Space Programme aesthetic. Encompassing the most brutal of industrial sound design alongside intrinsic field recordings and the sleeker, low tempos and frenetic energy of jungle, breakbeats and drum and bass, Jarman’s ability to maneuver between genre and style sees the music of Kamikaze Space Programme defy classification while spiralling from one nether-spectrum of sound to the next. Few have a recent back catalogue as rich and diverse as returning guest Randomer. His discography reads like a who’s who of modern techno: across a six year career, he’s produced four EPs for Untold’s Hemlock Recordings; released records for Hessle Audio, Numbers, Perc Trax and Clone; and most recently, been cherry-picked for Ron Morelli’s L.I.E.S. As a DJ, Randomer is one of the UK’s finest, capable of effortlessly stitching together modern bass with classic techno and less esoteric 4/4 rhythms. Rifts deftly weaves techno, jungle and hardcore into sets that are instinctive, unflinching and authentic. This Berlin-born, classically trained musician has performed at leading events including Krake Festival, as part of the Recursion live project, and City of a Thousand Suns. Rifts is a solemn fixture behind the decks at some of Berlin’s venues. Bulgarian-born Errorbeauty is an electro/electronica producer whose aggressive, tense yet melodically refined music has found its way out via many cutting-edge labels. Production work followed with her first release “Sayonara”, uniquely combining her nuanced understanding of melody and arrangement with dystopian, harsh mechanoid beats, allowing Errorbeauty to fully work within disciplines of genres like electro, hard techno, breaks and electronica, enriching them yet not being bound by their limitations.
