23:59 – GLOBUS | TRESOR
For the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the “Trümmern und Träumen” festival (“Ruins and Dreams”) will take place on the 5th and 6th of September along the Spree River, the East Side Gallery and around the Oberbaum Bridge, demonstrating the development of the Berlin club scene before and after the bringing down of the wall. And of course Tresor will be present! At 7pm “Tresor meets Trümmern und Träumen” presents an evening full of personal insight into the history of Tresor as one of the central locations during the reunification of East and West, curated personally by the founder of Tresor Club and culture activist Dimitri Hegemann. Dimitri Hegemann opens the celebration with a video lecture on Tresor as an example of 25 Years Reunification. The club as a filter though which the dramatic changes, experiences and acheivements of the last 25 years can be scanned. Following this will be a nostaglic talk between the East Berlin philosopher and theologist Andreas Böttcher, journalist Rainer Schmidt, the erstwhile West Berliner Dimitri and further guests, discussing the time before and after the fall of the wall. Where did people go out? What kind of beverages were consumed and what did they cost? The rent? How did one communicate? How did one party? Where did people meet up? What were the career aspirations? And of course the crucial question: was everything really “better then”. Musical intervals will be provided by Dimitri Hegemann, Moritz von Oswald and René Löwe aka Vainqueur.
At midnight we’ll finally let the membranes speak when the club opens and a few of the absolute techno pioneers of that time 25 years ago will provide the soundtrack of the night. Among them besides Oswald and Löwe will be also Wolle XDP, who as intregal part of the Tekknozid posse was an important techno forerunner in East Berlin even before the fall of the wall; Sven von Thülen, DJ and co-author of “Klang der Familie”, the definitive oral history of the German capital’s techno culture; Tresor legend Pacou; techno DJ, producer, composer and comic artist Alan Oldham, tonight dazzling his turntable wizardry appearing under his moniker Detroitrocketscience; and our club techno resident Ro.
