Berlin-based live duo and production unit, OPERANT, have progressively carved out their own space in the scene with boundary-defying electronic explorations, fuelled with tension and obscurity. A collaborative project between Instruments of Discipline founder, Luna Vassarotti and August Skipper, OPERANT have been serving a selective stream of output through the label with a focus on Techno, Noise and Experimental. Characterised by unrestrained experimentation, the project brutally morphs itself as it pleases, both in performance and in the studio. OPERANT’s live shows are a collision between the body and machines, encompassing gestural noise, power tools, mic’d metal fragments, synths, drum machines and dual vocals distorted to the point of surreality. Since their inception OPERANT have been consistently touring, sharing stages across Europe, Asia, Australia and Russia. Thomas Bruning is Shrouds from Amsterdam. He is signed to Altar, a new booking agency founded by Antonia Rangelova. Based in Berlin, Altar represents some of today’s most forward thinking artists in electronic music including Years of Denial, Tara in Tibet, Altstadt Echo, The Brvtalist and Shrouds. He describes his style as “music for the apocalypse” – tonight we can taste that techno tendency of his artistry. Tonight’s new faces artists are hosted by Netherlands-born Tresor resident Esther Duijn, whose sound is characterised by the deep and solid side of techno and house music. Having released on labels like Fred P’s Soul People Music, German Housewax and Portuguese Exquisite Music, solo and also with her long-time production partner Steady Douglas as “Duijn & Douglas”, Duijn has shown her skill as a producer and a DJ, with over 20 (vinyl) releases under her belt. Esther’s running a label, podcast series & event called “Another Earth”, inviting various international well-known artists. Esther loves to mix the old, the new, the rare, the deep and the raw parts of electronic dance music to brilliant effect, never compromising on the groove. She maintains a steady flow while staying true to the roots of Chicago house and Detroit techno.
