Melissa Lynne Strain is Glasgow born, Berlin-based LISSA, and tonight will give us a sample of her dark, versatile sets, as recently featured on New Brvtalism No. 170 podcast. Having gathered attention at several underground Berlin venues, we welcome her to the New Faces decks tonight. Fabio Boxikus, aka XIK, grounded in 2007 together with Francesco Ciardo, the queer techno underground event “Sabotage Berlin”, where he also started his carrier as a video artist, maintaining a political profile deployed towards the gender issue. This made him travel and been hosted in different events in Europe, like Behind Bars (London), Les Fatales (Barcelona), Phag Off (Rome), Queer Festival (Warschaw) and more. Since January 2011, together with Francesco Macarone Palmieri aka Warbear, XIK founded the event “Gegen Berlin”, becoming one of the most representative queer events in the city. Recently Boxikus began his career as a DJ with the name of XIK. From 2014 to 2017 he co-produced the “Drone” music-noise and industrial event. Tonight’s new faces artists are hosted by Netherlands-born Tresor resident Esther Duijn, whose sound is characterised by the deep and solid side of techno and house music. Having released on labels like Fred P’s Soul People Music, German Housewax and Portuguese Exquisite Music, solo and also with her long-time production partner Steady Douglas as “Duijn & Douglas”, Duijn has shown her skill as a producer and a DJ, with over 20 (vinyl) releases under her belt. Esther’s running a label, podcast series & event called “Another Earth”, inviting various international well-known artists. Esther loves to mix the old, the new, the rare, the deep and the raw parts of electronic dance music to brilliant effect, never compromising on the groove. She maintains a steady flow while staying true to the roots of Chicago house and Detroit techno.
