Tresor resident and female:pressure artist Kaltès is a musician, DJ and curator living between Berlin, having been hosting the female:pressure nights in our home for quite some time. She has an extensive background in music and studied jazz and improvisation in Brussels, before giving in Berlin’s darkest shade of techno. Kaltès’ versatility as a DJ and producer has grown over the years to harder-hitting techno, infused with her unique sense. Her skill and depth across all her musical activities prove that “light doesn’t shine without darkness”, as one critic put. Kaltès is equally at ease building romantic, heady soundscapes as well as infamous techno. In 2018 New York-based Russian artist Julia Govor established her “multidisciplinary” label called Jujuka. The idea behind the label is to share narratives about her own experience in the dance, both as an artist and a raver. Each record comes with a comic, written by Govor and drawn by London duo Le.BLUE, meant to offer “a terribly honest and satirical insight into real and relatable experiences as a partygoer,” according to the label. The first release, simply titled Jujuka 01, features three new tracks from Govor. Nerea Del Rio aka Ne/Re/A is a Basque DJ based out of Brooklyn, carved in the NYC underground techno scene that leans towards industrial, heavy punch and fierce techno sounds with EBM and darkwave influences. Ne/Re/A is a regular on the local circuit and her name is associated with parties and sets of high intensity, energy and darkness. She throws a monthly event at Bossa Nova Civic Club called Distrikt1 where she invites already established local DJs as well as new talents. Renata forged a natural form of expression ever since her start back in 2010. During her time in the UK, she landed residencies in London and co-founded The Calling series supporting local talents in the Techno scene. Her sets are fiery, enthralling, raucous, deconstructing pieces of music to create her own and recreating a story-like journey through industrial sounds. After her return to Beirut in 2016, Renata joined the Frequent Defect team sharing similar interests in addressing the socio-political issues and tabooed subject matter through multidisciplinary art. In the +4Bar: Demian Licht is dark light. The Mexican artist’s intention within her live & AV shows is to direct a cinematic / film noir experience. She is Ableton Certified Trainer and Motus Records founder. Merrisa Campbell is Cooly G from London, a singer, rapper, producer and DJ. Since signing with the Hyperdub label in 2009, Campbell has steadily progressed into the label’s central fold following a wealth of club-oriented, UK funky and tribal house-influenced EPs and a debut album in 2012, entitled “Playin’ Me”. As Hyperdub celebrated a few years back its first decade as a fully-fledged label, Cooly G unleashed another full-length collection of material in “Wait Til’ Night” which saw her moving into more refined, intimate territory than ever before. Yeşim Duman is an artist from Hamburg’s night and cultural life, and is known far beyond the city. For some years she has been organizing the party series bubble, which moves from club to club in Hamburg. The idea is to celebrate queer, but the music is the focus. Here is an audience of fun that appreciates selected house, techno and electronic music. It is a colorful party without drawers always with an exquisitely selected line up – this is particularly important to Yeşim. In addition, the Kiel native will be hosting the program female:pressure @ bytefm at the web radio station ByteFM, where female DJs and electronic music are featured. Tereza is very special: hardly anyone so elegantly unites musical explorers with an outspoken commitment to escalation. Bass in your heart. Technical finesse. Real passion for new sounds. And a lot of love for all those details that make a track a hymn and a small twist on the controller a big moment on the dance floor. Last year, Tereza played with many international greats and is a bonafide underground tip for many Berlin clubbers.
