With their regular “Machine” night, Kirk Degiorgio and Ben Sims have toughened London’s techno scene since 2011. Meant to be somewhat different, the focus moreover towards the full support of new music. The ideal concept for this was built around the option of guest and resident DJs playing tracks that are no more than one year old. In this way future classics could be discovered, unreleased material revealed, getting rid of the rigidness of strict expectation – all of which creates an openness on the dancefloor as well as behind the decks. No wonder that in no time at all it became clear that the Machine parties and their reputation should not be unique to the London scene, moving from Holland, Spain, Ireland and in our home since 2014. French DJ and Tresor Records artist Marcelus compliments this excellent Machine basement program. In Globus, a live set by Porter Ricks is awaited, a sound project by German producers Thomas Köner & Andy Mellwig; the return of techno icon and Berlin innovator Moritz von Oswald of Basic Channel fame; Detroit shing star Luke Hess joins the roster: with celebrated EPs out on Omar S’ FXHE, Carl Craig’s Planet-e, Echocord and many more, his Detroit label DeepLabs has been the center for his own deeply personal projects; and Ka One & St-Sene aka Kas:st, Techno/Deep Techno producers based in Paris and owners of Flyance Records.
