Sonic Groove Records was the brainchild of three New York techno DJ’s, Brothers Frankie Bones & Adam X along with Heather Heart. After more than a decade of international success, the label relocated to Berlin, Germany in 2007 where Adam has taken the Sonic Groove label to further heights with a well built artist roster of contemporary techno and industrial artists and many new releases out each year. A veritable techno marverick, Adam X has influenced the genre mulitifold, performing sets internationally as well as releasing timeless tracks. Currently Adam has two main side-projects under the monikers Traversable Wormhole & ADMX-71. For this Sonic Groove evening Adam X is joined by label mate Monolith. Started as a solo project in 1997, Monolith was formed by the Belgian electronic music veteran and producer Eric Van Wonterghem (ex-Klinik and member of Sonar and Absolute Body Control). Monolith has the rare privilege to appeal to a very diverse audience, his music ranges from the harsh ambient/industrial camp to more intellectual electronic dance experiments . Since Eric moved to Berlin, he noticed that the techno and industrial crowds have a lot of similarities and moved further into this direction. Frequent guest and Hardwax Berlin DJ Mischa joins on the decks, as well as L.I.E.S. record label boss Ron Morelli. With a dizzying and impressive catalogue serving up everything from acid-splashed techno to atmospheric space jams, a good start would be the excellent “American Noise” label compilation from 2012. Morelli’s label is the focus on the Globus Floor: frequent Tresor DJ and Paris artist DJ Deep is a techno and house producer and DJ. He runs the Deeply Rooted label, formerly Deeply Rooted House. Getting his “first chance” via Laurent Garnier, he has been an integral part of the French techno scene and a resident at the legendary Rex Club in Paris, not to mention a new member of the Tresor label family. With his EP “Rebeval” on L.I.E.S. last year, he gave the world a sumptuous release under this moniker, with a track like “Chantage” that surfs both techno and house waves. Other invited L.I.E.S. artists tonight include Frankfurt’s Florian Kupfer; American Greg Beato’s “PMA” EP on the label features his very individual and unique mashed up infectious style; and Paris-based artist 45 ACP aka D.K., one of the heralds of that lo-fi, dusty Chicago house and techno scene that’s riding high at the moment.
